Chihuahua Breeders an Hour From Austin
Our puppies spend their first weeks with their mother in our home, not in a kennel building. From birth we weigh each one every day, which is how we catch a puppy that is not keeping up long before it becomes a problem. They move onto soft food at around four weeks, and we handle them every day so they grow up used to people, voices and the normal noise of a house.
Being this close to Austin means you can see that for yourself. By the time you visit, your puppy has a feeding routine, a weight log and its first vet check behind it. To ask about a particular puppy before booking a visit, call us on (646) 463-2052.
Chihuahua Puppies for Sale Austin Texas: An Hour Up I-35
Austin is our closest big city. Head north on I-35 through Round Rock, Georgetown and Salado and you are in Temple in about an hour outside rush hour. From the east side, SH 130 is a quick toll alternative that rejoins I-35 near Georgetown.
| Starting from | Route | Drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Georgetown | I-35 north through Salado | About 35 minutes |
| Round Rock and Pflugerville | I-35 or SH 130 north | About 45 minutes |
| Downtown Austin | I-35 north | About 1 hour 10 minutes |
| South Austin and Buda | I-35 or SH 130 north | About 1 hour 20 minutes |
The only real delay is I-35 through central Austin between 7 and 9 in the morning and 4 and 7 in the afternoon. A late morning visit avoids both.
Visit Twice: Meet the Mother, Then Bring Your Puppy Home
Because the drive is short, many Austin families come up twice. The first visit is to meet the puppy and its mother, see the room the litter is raised in and ask every question in person. The second is go-home day.
For a teacup size puppy, those weeks matter. Our smallest puppies stay with us until 10 to 12 weeks, eating four to five small meals a day, and go home only once they hold their weight between meals. An hour in the car is easy for a puppy that has reached that point: it eats with us before it leaves, and most sleep the whole way to Austin.
Teacup Chihuahuas in Austin Apartments and Homes
A lot of our Austin enquiries come from apartments and condos, and a teacup or toy size Chihuahua can suit that well. A few things we tell Austin families before go-home day:
- Start pad or litter tray training on day one if you live above the ground floor. Our Chihuahua potty training schedule continues the routine we start at home.
- Plan for the heat. Pavement in an Austin summer can burn small paws by mid-morning. Walk early, or carry the puppy until the vaccines are finished anyway.
- Work on hallway noise early. Chihuahuas notice every door and footstep. Rewarding calm from the first week saves months of barking later.
Austin Vet Visits and Pet Registration
See an Austin vet within three days and bring the puppy's vet record and microchip number. Texas requires a rabies vaccine by 4 months of age, and your vet will schedule it with the rest of the puppy series. Check your city's pet registration rules too. Prices for every puppy are on the listing, from $650 to $850, and what each one includes is on our teacup Chihuahua puppies for sale page.
Ready to visit? Send the free adoption application and mention Austin, and we will set up a time to meet. Want to know more about us first? Read about our home and family.
Austin Chihuahua Puppy Questions
How close are your Chihuahua puppies to Austin?
Our home in Temple is about 68 miles north of downtown Austin, roughly an hour and 10 minutes on I-35 outside rush hour. From Round Rock or Georgetown it is closer to 40 minutes. That makes us one of the nearest options for Austin families who want to meet a Chihuahua breeder and the puppy's mother in person.
Can I visit before I commit to a Chihuahua puppy?
Yes. From Austin it is a short enough drive to visit once to meet the puppy and its mother, and come back on go-home day. Visits are by appointment, and young puppies are not handled by visitors until their first vaccines are done. Send an application first so we can match you with the right puppy.
Are teacup Chihuahuas a good fit for an Austin apartment?
Often, yes. A teacup size Chihuahua projected at 3 to 4 lbs needs little space and can be trained to a litter tray or pee pads, which helps on upper floors. They do need someone home for regular small meals in the first months, and they bark at hallway noise unless you work on it early.
