Driving over lets you meet the mother, see the puppy room and get our care walkthrough at home. Sending someone works the same way: anyone you name can collect by appointment, as long as you send us their name and confirm in writing. When we fly, one of us carries your puppy in the cabin and hands it over in arrivals.
The Drive Home Across East Texas
From Shreveport the route crosses rural East Texas, with long stretches between towns. Fill up before you leave Waco on the way home and plan your puppy's halfway feeding for Tyler or Palestine, where it is easy to stop. From Lake Charles, the drive runs through Houston, so time your pickup to miss the evening rush on I-10 and the Beltway. Either way, the puppy eats with us before it leaves, and you carry Nutri-Cal or glucose gel in case it goes wobbly rather than just sleepy.
Louisiana Humidity and a Small Chihuahua
Louisiana summers are hot and very humid, and humidity makes it harder for a small dog to cool down. Keep walks to early morning or after dark from May to September, and do not leave the puppy on a porch or in a car. Light coated puppies tend to show tear staining more in damp air, so wipe under the eyes daily. Book a vet in the first three days and bring the vet record and microchip number we send. Your vet will schedule the rabies vaccine with the rest of the puppy series, and many parishes also ask for a pet license, so check with yours. Can you fly a Chihuahua puppy to New Orleans?
Yes. Austin has direct flights to New Orleans of about an hour and a half, which makes it one of our shortest deliveries. One of us flies with your puppy in the cabin and hands it to you in arrivals at Louis Armstrong International, along with its records, starter food and a walkthrough of its feeding schedule.
How long is the drive from Shreveport to your Chihuahua puppies?
About four and a half hours, roughly 270 miles, across East Texas through Tyler or Palestine to Waco and down to Temple. It is a straightforward day trip, and collecting in person lets you meet the mother and see where your puppy was raised.
Are there Chihuahua breeders in Louisiana that raise puppies at home?
