Chihuahua Breeders Within a Day Trip of Houston
Houston has no shortage of Chihuahua listings, and a lot of them are puppies bought in from somewhere else and resold. Ours are not. Each litter is born in our house, registered with the AKC, and raised with us until go-home day. We weigh every puppy every morning and keep it in a log that goes home with you, so the weight on the listing is a number we measured, not a guess.
Call us on (646) 463-2052 before you make the drive and ask anything: the mother's name, the litter's birth date, how much your puppy ate yesterday. We know those answers because we were there.
Chihuahuas for Sale in Houston, Texas: The Drive to Our Home
Houston families have two easy routes to us. From Katy, Cypress and the west side, US-290 runs northwest through Hempstead and Brenham. From The Woodlands, Spring and Humble, TX-6 through Bryan and College Station is often quicker. Both meet the I-35 corridor near Temple, and both take around 2 hours 45 minutes when traffic is light.
| Starting from | Usual route | Drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Katy and Cypress | US-290 west through Brenham | About 2 hours 30 minutes |
| Central Houston | US-290 west | About 2 hours 45 minutes |
| The Woodlands and Spring | TX-6 north through College Station | About 2 hours 45 minutes |
| Sugar Land and Pearland | US-290 or TX-6 | About 3 hours |
Leave Houston after 9 in the morning and you miss the worst of the outbound traffic. For the drive home, we suggest a pickup around midday, so you are back before the evening rush on the 610 and Beltway 8.
Teacup Chihuahua for Sale in Houston: The Ride Home
A drive of almost three hours is the longest trip most of our puppies have ever taken, and for a teacup size puppy the risk is low blood sugar, not car sickness. This is the plan we give every Houston family:
- Before you leave our home, your puppy eats a small meal with us, so it starts the drive with a full tank.
- About halfway, around Brenham or College Station, stop and offer a few bites of the starter food and a little water.
- If the puppy seems sleepy and floppy rather than just tired, rub a pea-sized amount of Nutri-Cal or glucose gel on its gums and pull over until it perks up.
- Once home, offer another small meal within an hour, then let it sleep somewhere warm and quiet.
Houston heat matters too. From May to September, run the car's air conditioning before the puppy gets in, keep the carrier out of direct sun, and never leave the puppy in a parked car, even for a quick stop. Our teacup Chihuahua low blood sugar guide explains the warning signs in full.
Houston Vet Visits, Rabies Rules and Registration
Book a visit with a Houston vet within the first three days, and bring the vet record we give you. Texas law requires dogs to be vaccinated against rabies by 4 months of age, and your vet will schedule that with the rest of the puppy series. Check with your city or county about pet registration, as the rules differ across the Houston area. Our Chihuahua puppy checklist covers everything to have ready before the drive.

Houston Chihuahua Puppy Questions
How far is your Chihuahua breeder home from Houston?
Our home in Temple is about 165 miles from central Houston, roughly 2 hours 45 minutes by car outside rush hour. Families from Katy and Cypress usually come up US-290, and families from The Woodlands or Spring often take TX-6 through College Station. We set a pickup time that keeps you out of Houston traffic on the way home.
Can I buy a teacup Chihuahua puppy in Houston without driving to Temple?
We place puppies by pickup at our home, because we want every family to meet the puppy and its mother in person before taking it home. For Houston that is one day trip of around five and a half hours there and back. Many families combine it with a stop in Brenham or College Station.
What does a teacup Chihuahua puppy need for the drive to Houston?
A small carrier, a towel, a bottle of water, the starter food we send and a tube of Nutri-Cal or glucose gel. On a drive of nearly three hours, a teacup size puppy should be offered a few bites of food and water about halfway. Keep the carrier out of direct sun and never leave the puppy in a parked car.
